The Falling Away

Foundation Scriptures

(2Th 2:3)
  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

(2Th 2:4)  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

2017 years ago our Lord Jesus entered into the world by becoming manifested in the flesh that He might, for a time, dwell among men.  That He might live as a man and experience first hand all of the emotions and temptations of man.  Even more importantly that He might overcome the world as a Spirit filled man walking perfectly within the will of His Father God.

During His earthen ministry our Lord had spoken many times of false doctrines, the doctrines of demons and men, which existed in His time.  He also spoke of false Christs (
pseudochristos) and false prophets (pseudoprophētēs) who would show great signs and wonders "insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect (the chosen - the house of Israel). (Mat 24:24)

The Greek word
pseudochristos comes from:

1)  the word
pseudēs (untrue, that is, erroneous, deceitful, wicked: - false, liar) which comes from the word pseudomai (to utter an untruth or attempt to deceive by falsehood)

2) the Greek word
Christos (anointed, that is, the Messiah) which comes from the word chriō (through the idea of contact; to smear or rub with oil, that is, (by implication) to consecrate to an office or religious service)

And surely the elect were deceived because it was the sole purpose of Jesus earthen ministry to save the lost sheep of the house of Israel! (Mat 15:24).
This idea of false witnesses and false apostles is continued in the apostolic ministry of our Lord,
which can clearly be seen in the epistles, and is also clearly seen within today's church as well.
Now it is important to note here that albeit all deception is the result of evil, not all of those spreading these doctrines of demons, these doctrines of men, are doing so with the intention of deception.  They themselves have been deceived and know not what they are doing because they honestly believe what they are saying.  They have been blinded to the truth and can not receive it so they reject it!

Why is this so?

The answer has been written here many times before but it must be written again.
The primary reasons that so many within the church today have been deceived are:
1) They have not truly accepted Jesus as their Lord.
2) They have not become skilled craftsmen in the handling of the word of God.  That is to say that they have not learned how to rightly divide the word of God.

Today, more than ever before, the body of Christ has turned to man's wisdom for understanding and enlightenment rather than to the Holy Spirit of God, who was given to us by our Father God for, among other things, to guide us onto all truth and teach us all things.

These people sit and read bible commentaries, rather than to read the word of God itself, and accept the opinions the of men and women who they personally see as "authorities" without proving what they are writing with scriptures.  Subsequently they are snared by the enemy, their understanding becomes darkened and they are led into deception.

Now ALL of this could have been avoided if these people would have truly received Christ Jesus as their Lord, but they haven't, albeit they believe they have.

How can we prove this claim?

Who do you follow?  Who do you Love?
People can claim whatever they like but the proof of the pudding is in the eating!

When people truly know who Jesus is, when they truly subjugate themselves to Him, when they truly receive Him as Lord, they begin to speak the words that He spoke and do the things that He did.  They do this because when they make the willful decision to make Him their Lord, when they truly put off the old man and put on Christ, when they really begin to follow Him, they are transformed into His image and likeness.

The Indwelling Holy Spirit

What did Jesus and John the Baptist have that no other person on earth before them had?
The Indwelling Holy Spirit!

No one single person, not Adam, not Abraham, not Moses, not David, not any of the old testament prophets, had the Holy Spirit of God living within them!

But we, the children of Light,  the anointed of God, who are in the process of becoming Christ-like because we have truly received Him as Lord and follow the unction of the Holy Spirit, not the instructions and teachings of man, know the truth because we have the mind of Christ living within us.  We are His sheep and we know His voice and we follow the voice of no other.

The Doctrines of Christ
It takes more than lip service to be a disciple of Christ.

When Jesus called His first disciples onto Him he commanded that these men "follow" Him.  This meant that they had to forsake everything that they were and everything that they knew and learn a NEW way.  New for them anyway.

Scriptures tell us that the people were often astonished at the doctrines of Jesus.  But these things were nothing new.  The doctrines of Jesus were not a new thing.  They were the same things that the prophets before Him had spoken and the same things that the people rejected.

How could they be a new thing?
After all, it was always God, Jesus himself, the Word of God, speaking through the prophets of old!

And just as the old testament people of God had rejected His Word the people who profess to be disciples of Christ reject His words in the exact same manner today.  They talk the talk but do not walk the talk!

For Example:

In the gospel of Luke, in chapter 5, we see the Jesus disciples "forsaking all" to follow Him (v.11, v.28).  Not long thereafter we see Jesus teaching and healing with Pharisees and doctors of the law in the midst of them who were "reasoning" and "murmuring" against them.  And then we see Jesus speaking this parable to them:

(Luk 5:36)  And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old.

(Luk 5:37)  And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

(Luk 5:38)  But new wine must be put into new bottles; and both are preserved.

(Luk 5:39)  No man also having drunk old wine straightway desireth new: for he saith, The old is better.

(also found in Mat 9:16-17, Mar 2:21-22)

Now this is one of my favorite parables of our Lord for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that this is one of the few parables of Jesus which He did not afterward offer an explanation to His disciples, which tells me that everyone understood exactly what He was saying.

In that light I often find myself in amazement that so many today misinterpret it and that many more flat out ignore it or reject it!

Jesus is crystal clear here that the new garment of righteousness is not to be used or to be mixed with or used to fix the old.  That when a man does this thing a "rent" (
schizō - split or sever (literally or figuratively): - break, divide) is made because the new does not agree (sumphōneō - be harmonious, that is, (figuratively) to accord be suitable, concur).

Our Lord goes on to further clarify this doctrine by changing the analogy of cloth to wine.

He proclaims that the NEW wine (doctrine) should not be placed in old bottles (or wine-skins) (vessels or people).  If they do this thing the wine will be spilled onto the ground (made impure) and the bottles will perish.

Now in John 14:15 Jesus says that those who love Him will "keep" His commandments.  What this means, (to keep -
tēreō - to guard from suffering injury or loss) is that those who love Him will preserve His words and His doctrines.  They will not blend them with other doctrines.  They will keep them holy! (hagios - sacred, physically pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated)

But so many self professed disciples of Christ do blend His doctrines with others, especially the doctrines of old which were in error or have been fulfilled by Christ.

Why do they do this thing?

Because NO MAN "also" having drunk old wine desires the new wine because they "say" the old is better!

You see these people have not TRULY put off the old man and put on Christ for they obey not His words.  They constantly try to mix the new with the old which causes confusion and it should do exactly that because the new doesn't agree with the old no matter how man attempts to make it do so.

They have not truly made Jesus their Lord.  They have not subjugated themselves to His will or His doctrines.  They have held fast to their customs and traditions and beliefs in spite of that which our Lord has clearly decreed!

And this is just one example of how the church has rejected Christ while professing Him as their Lord, just as the "chosen people" of God did back in the days of the old testament, albeit there is a HUGE difference between the two.

The new testament saint has the indwelling Holy Spirit within them to teach them and to guide them onto the truth.  We have an unction (
chrisma - an unguent or smearing, that is, (figuratively) the special endowment (“chrism”) of the Holy Spirit: - anointing) and through the Holy Spirit we know all things (1 John 2:20).

The Falling Away of the church in the latter days (today) is not people walking away from Christianity.  It is not people turning from God.   It is a departure from the pure doctrines of our Lord Christ Jesus!

It is the blending of the old testament righteousness with the new when Jesus Himself said that both need to be kept separate to preserve the new.

It is even the mixing of other religions into the pure doctrines of Christ.

Now I know that this will not be received well by many but that does not change the truth of the Word of God.

I also know that there will be some who will become offended by this posting.  I can assure you that is not my intention here but I make no apologies for the word of God.  It says what it says and if people chose not to receive it's truth, if they chose to hold onto their beliefs in spite of what scriptures say, if they chose to follow another other than our Lord Christ Jesus, so be it!

If you prefer the old wine to the new, drink it.  It is my prayer however that you prayerfully consider what has been written here.  Go back into the word and prove what you have read.

Be honest with yourself and ask yourself if Jesus is truly your Lord.  Ask yourselves if you are TRULY following Him and walking in His truth.

May God bless you and keep you always in the name that is above all names.   The King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  Christ Jesus.  Amen & Amen!
